Guy J Brown Photography FAQ

How do you use infrared film in a pinhole camera?

I've used Maco IR820c in a variety of home-made pinhole cameras, with a red filter fixed behind the pinhole (the Ilford SFX gelatin filter works well). I rate at ISO6, and meter using a hand-held meter. Develop for 14 min in Ilford ID-11 stock at 20C, agitating for 10 seconds every minute. Note that IR820c has an anti-halation layer which needs to be removed with a pre-rinse (this will wash out as a virulent blue). Fix and wash as normal.

How do you make your pinholes?

I don't. I buy laser drilled pinholes from Lenox Laser, who produce excellent pinholes in sheet steel at reasonable cost.
